Temporary Road Closure on Forbes Avenue

From 7 p.m. on Friday, March 7, to approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, March 10, a section of Forbes Avenue – from South Craig Street to the Tepper Quad parking garage entrance – will temporarily close to accommodate one phase of construction for the new Richard King Mellon Hall of Sciences. During that time, the following traffic changes will be in effect:

Vehicles traveling eastbound on Forbes Ave. will be rerouted left on South Craig St., right on Fifth Ave. and right on Morewood Ave. Detour signage will be posted.

Vehicles traveling westbound on Forbes Ave. will be rerouted right on Morewood Ave., left on Fifth Ave. and left on South Craig St. (The city will temporarily suspend restrictions on left turns from Morewood to Fifth.) Detour signage will be posted.

The following entrances off Forbes Ave. will remain open:
- Carnegie Museums’ parking garage
- Tepper Quad parking garage
- Campus road between the Mehrabian Collaborative Innovation Center and Hamburg Hall -
The northern sidewalk of Forbes Ave. will remain open to pedestrians and dismounted bicyclists walking their bikes. The southern sidewalk will continue to remain closed from South Craig St. to the Mehrabian Collaborative Innovation Center throughout the duration of the larger construction project.
CMU shuttle riders should check the CMU bus tracker for impacts to shuttle routes. Traffic updates will continue to be posted to CMU's Transportation Services website as they become available.
